We have sent out our petition forms to get rid of UPTE as the union representing Research Workers (RX unit) via e-mail. We will also send petitions to all those who we cannot contact via e-mail. This is only the first step of a long process. If 30% of Research Workers sign the petition forms, a vote will be held under the auspices of the California Public Employees Relations Board (PERB). A simple majority of yes votes for decertification will force UPTE out. The first step is for all RX unit workers to fill out the petition.

I will visit all UC campuses in the coming months and my fellow Research Workers at the various campuses will ask you to sign the decertification petition. I ask you all to ponder this question ­ has UPTE made a real difference for you or do they just take your money for a minimal raise (or no raise) in your salary?
